Hotels in Maastricht

Hotels in Maastricht

Netherlands / Maastricht

Despite being a small city, Maastricht has a good range of hotels. Especially those "boutique" ones, which are supposed to have less rooms, careful service, low profile approach towards guests. There is something charming about these hotels, some of them called Bed&Breakfast. Here is a concise list where I have already stayed in that I consider worth to explore.

Maastricht: the beautiful and first town built in Holland

Maastricht: the beautiful and first town built in Holland

Netherlands / Maastricht

Every European city, regardless of its size, and that is home to a large and recognized university, has a different pace of life and a lively dynamic in its surroundings that keeps it attractive, even though the majority of the inhabitants are elderly. Located in the extreme southeast of Holland, Maastricht was founded by the Romans and is the oldest city in the country.

The Hague: love at first sight

The Hague: love at first sight

Netherlands / The Hague (Den Haag)

It was love at first sight. It has a very peculiar charm, with a countryside feeling, but full of pomp like a big city. It is difficult to explain what delighted me the most in this city that may be considered one of the most important ones in Holland, together with Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

A friendly guide to Germany

A friendly guide to Germany

To understand the history and culture of Germany and fall in love with an itinerary made of landscapes, culinary flavors and unforgettable artistic expressions, start at Leipzig. No other city represents Germany as well as this one, which is currently the fastest growing and most prosperous in the country.

Israel: one of the most surprising places in the world!

Israel: one of the most surprising places in the world!

Israel is one of the most wonderful places in the world. I was so amazed when I arrived in the country, because even though I had imagined that the experience could be really special, nothing compares to the pleasant surprises this country holds.

My beloved Holland: far from the stereotypes

My beloved Holland: far from the stereotypes

I have always been questioned about my obsessive love for the Netherlands, and I still find myself searching for the most different explanations for something that seems particularly obvious to me, but for many - if not most – believe that I'm just being eccentric.

The fascinating Jordan: one of the richest sites of the Arab culture

The fascinating Jordan: one of the richest sites of the Arab culture

I believe many of those who will read this article, just like me, have never had Jordan on their traveling bucket list. There are those who recognize it as the country of the archaeological city of Petra; others talk about Jordan because of the Dead Sea. And those thinking of visiting the East are most likely to go to Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Morocco. But few go to Jordan.

Jerusalem: intense, magical and full of contrasts

Jerusalem: intense, magical and full of contrasts

Israel / Jerusalem

Just as you can’t miss Tel Aviv when going to Israel, the same can be said of Jerusalem. Similarly, you can’t understand, or at least begin to understand the history of Israel, without experiencing Jerusalem. I think it will never be possible to put into in words how intense, magical, energetic and beautiful this city is. And full of contrasts.

Caesarea: an old port built by the Romans

Caesarea: an old port built by the Romans

Just by looking at the photos, before visiting this archaeological site, I was struck by the blue of the sea and the grandeur of the ruins of what has been the scene of so many events since the time of Herod the Great. Its creation begins around 13 BC, when it was transformed into the capital and port region thanks to King Herod's will to have a palace of his own.

Bethlehem of Galilee: where Jesus Christ is believed to be born

Bethlehem of Galilee: where Jesus Christ is believed to be born

Israel / Bethlehem of Galilee

Some call it a village, others a moshav, which means a kind of cooperative rural community. Bethlehem of the Galilee is better known today because, according to archaeologists, it was where Jesus Christ was born, and not in Bethlehem of Judea. It is just eight miles from the city of Nazareth, where according to biblical records, Mary and Joseph lived their lives.

Gouda: the city of the famous Dutch cheese

Gouda: the city of the famous Dutch cheese

Netherlands / Gouda

If you are in Amsterdam or Utrecht, take a train in the morning and spend a day in Gouda. A few less than 24 hours is more than enough to visit this cute city, known for its famous Gouda cheese - loved and consumed by the entire Holland and abroad.

A day at the beach of Scheveningen

A day at the beach of Scheveningen

It was a pleasant surprise when I first arrived at Scheveningen beach. A hot, sunny summer day, riding a bicycle and looking at the immensity of the sea. I never imagined I would see such a beautiful beach in Holland.

Where to sleep in Palermo

Where to sleep in Palermo

Italy / Palermo

Palermo doesn’t have a large offer of hotels. There are all types of hotels in the city, but I can’t recommend any because I have never stayed anywhere else other than a Bed & Breakfast or at a friend's house. When I first went to Sicily, it was a pleasant surprise to find a charming B&B named BB22, whose owner became a great and dear friend.

Palermo in neighborhoods: the main districts worth exploring

Palermo in neighborhoods: the main districts worth exploring

Italy / Palermo

This is a very rich neighborhood, historically speaking. This is also where the beautiful Palazzo Reale is. The street market of which I speak in another article, Ballarò, is also located here, surrounded by old buildings, palaces and baroque churches. It's kind of decaying, because many buildings and constructions are so abandoned. Despite the fact that immigration is growing in this neighborhood, it is said that there is an attempt to revitalize it.
