From Gothic church to library

In Maastricht, many old gothic constructions are still admired and reused for different purposes. One of the nicest places to go for those who enjoy reading is the Boekhandel Dominicanen library. It is a great surprise to look at its façade and watch locals and tourists going in and coming out carrying bags; it is then that you notice it is a place dedicated to the commerce of books, magazines and the like. It has a cafeteria located in what was supposed to be, formerly, the church altar (with beautiful frescoes to enjoy). It was built 700 years ago, when it actually was a Dominican Order church. It is a must stop for anyone visiting Maastricht; if you’re lucky, your visit will coincide with one of the days when there are concerts and symphonies.
